JEMPOL: The increasingly dynamic political landscape requires all parties to formulate new strategies and alignments to ensure political stability, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).
The Barisan Nasional chairman said the understanding between Barisan and Perikatan Nasional for the Negri Sembilan state election would serve as a test case before deciding whether this approach should be extended to the Melaka state election and the 16th General Election.
“We will first assess its performance in Negri Sembilan.
“As politics is highly dynamic, we will determine the necessary alignments for Melaka and other states in the future, especially in preparation for GE16,” he told reporters after the Gema@KKDW 2026 programme here yesterday.
Ahmad Zahid said the understanding did not mean Barisan and Perikatan had formed a formal political cooperation, but was merely aimed at avoiding overlapping contests that could split votes.
“There is no binding agreement between the two coalitions, but there is an understanding to prevent overlapping contests for seats contested by Barisan or Perikatan,” he said, Bernama reported.
Early voting for the Negri Sembilan state polls is set for July 28, while polling day will be on Aug 1.
