IPOH: Parents have been warned to be wary of their children’s movements and activities following the arrests of two minors involved in a spate of car window-breaking incidents in Gerik.
Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said parents could be held legally liable if their children are found guilty of committing criminal offences.
“Parents and guardians must always monitor the activities and movements of children under their care” to prevent them from being involved in criminal activities that could affect their future, he said yesterday.
“Parents could also be held legally liable if their children are found guilty of committing a crime, playing truant or disturbing public peace, which includes bullying and vandalism.”
On the incident, Supt Abdul Samad said police received eight reports of car windows being broken on Friday at 2.38pm.
“The incidents took place at Taman Sri Temenggor, Taman Meha and Taman Gerik in Gerik,” he said.
“We arrested the two youths, aged 13 and 14, on Saturday morning,” Supt Abdul Samad said, adding that rocks and bricks were used during the incidents.
“They are believed to have been involved in breaking the windows of three vehicles at Taman Sri Temenggor on Friday.
“In all eight cases, the vehicles suffered damage with a total loss of about RM10,000,” he said.
