Balance tech mastery with moral values, says Anwar

TANGKAK: Mastery of modern technology and new disciplines needs to be balanced with the application of strong moral values and integrity to produce a generation that can contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said the government strongly encourages the exploration of future fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology and quantum computing.

However, he said the achievement of such knowledge would not be meaningful if it was not guided by faith and a strong moral foundation.

He said the lack of balance between knowledge and ethics could destroy society’s ecosystem.

“Gaining knowledge is to be smart, yes, but the main thing is to seek truth and become a good human being,” he said when speaking at the Sentuhan Sahabat Madani Programme in Bukit Gambir yesterday, Bernama reported.

Anwar said he is committed to ensure that allocations for education, higher education, science, technology and research and development (R&D) sectors at the university level are prioritised.

He, however, expressed regret over the leak of state funds worth tens of billions of ringgit previously, which he said should have been used to finance the education of young people.

“We also know that this rich country has lost tens of billions. Otherwise we can spend more for your education.”

Anwar also called on all Johoreans to return to the state and cast their vote.

“I call on all Johoreans, including those who are away from home, to return and exercise their rights.”
