Attempted murder charge

BANTING: A teenage girl was charged in the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court with the attempted murder of a Form Three student at a secondary school here.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Yazid said no plea was recorded from the 15-year-old after the charge was read out by a court interpreter before magistrate Maslinda Selamat yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, the teenager is accused of attempting to murder a 15-year-old schoolmate by stabbing her with a knife with the intention of causing her death at about 9.50am on July 6 at a secondary school in Banting.

The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years upon conviction.

Earlier, the teenager, who had been remanded for four days beginning July 7, arrived at the court at about 8.32am under police escort.

Meanwhile, members of the media were denied entry into the court compound as the case involved a juvenile accused.

It was previously reported that resentment harboured against a schoolmate was believed to have been the motive behind the stabbing.

However, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said preliminary investigations found that the incident was not linked to bullying.
