Police foil four drug-smuggling attempts at KLIA, Sepang, RM13.34mil in narcotics seized

SHAH ALAM: Police have intercepted four drug-smuggling attempts in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Sepang areas, seizing 166.2kg of drugs worth an estimated RM13.34mil.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar told a press conference on Thursday (July 9) that the operations took place between June 29 and July 4, resulting in the arrest of five suspects acting as drug mules.

Three of the attempts were thwarted at KLIA T1 on June 29 and July 4 after routine baggage screenings flagged suspicious packages, prompting deeper inspections. In those cases, police arrested three suspects aged 25 to 35, and confiscated 90.2kg of suspected marijuana buds. Investigators believe the syndicates intended to smuggle the narcotics to Europe.

The fourth attempt was disrupted on July 3 when police arrested a couple in Kota Warisan, Sepang. The suspects led officers to a rented local property, where four additional suitcases containing roughly 76kg of suspected marijuana were uncovered. Police also seized a vehicle believed to be used for drug distribution.

All five suspects have been remanded to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Shazeli warned the public to remain vigilant against modern smuggling tactics.
