PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received three reports linked to the 16th Johor state election, including an allegation of corruption involving an election candidate.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said one of the reports was lodged by the Election Campaign Enforcement Team in Batu Pahat, while the other two were public complaints.
He said all three reports are currently being assessed and investigated under the relevant laws.
“If there are corrupt practices in the ongoing election, regardless of the party, candidate, voter or supporter involved, corruption is still corruption.
“I will not comment further, but in this case, it involves a candidate,” he told reporters at the MACC headquarters here on Thursday (July 9).
Abd Halim also said the MACC had activated election operations rooms in Johor Baru, Segamat, Kluang, Batu Pahat and Mersing to make it easier for the public to channel information on abuse of power and corruption throughout the election period.
He stressed that the commission would not compromise and would take firm action against any party involved in election-related corruption, regardless of background, in order to safeguard the integrity of the democratic process.
“A clean election not only guarantees the integrity of the democratic system, but also strengthens public trust in national institutions,” he said.
He also reminded all candidates, political parties, supporters and voters to comply with the law throughout the campaign period and on polling day.
