Man hunted for stealing cash from Skudai surau donation box


JOHOR BARU: Police are tracking a man for allegedly stealing money from a donation box at a surau in Taman Selesa Jaya in Skudai near here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said preliminary investigation found the incident happened on Wednesday (July 8) at 4.25am.

“A committee member who arrived at the surau to perform a morning prayer at 5.55am, found the donation box located at the front of the surau was open,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Kumarasan said there were signs of the donation box being pried open and an inspection revealed that the cash inside the donation box was missing.

He said a police report on the theft was lodged on July 8, at 5.36pm, and the case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

“We are tracking the suspect and those with information on the case to come forward to assist with the investigation,’’ said ACP Kumarasan.

He also urged the public who have any knowledge of crime-related activities within Iskandar Puteri to visit the nearest police station or contact the Iskandar Puteri Police Control Centre at 07-511 3622 or Hotline at 07-511 4486.
