Anutin wishes Anwar best of luck in Johor polls

PUTRAJAYA: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has wished Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim all the best for the upcoming 16th Johor election.

"I wish you best of luck for your upcoming election," he said, drawing laughter from Anwar and the Thai and Malaysian Cabinet members and officials present.

Anutin extended his good wishes at the end of a joint press conference with Anwar after their bilateral meeting here on Thursday (July 9).

Johor is set to head to the polls this Saturday (July 11), with Pakatan contesting all 56 seats.

During the press conference, Anwar described their meeting as very substantive and fruitful, highlighting how Malaysia and Thailand are important neighbours in terms of history, culture, economic trade and investments.

He also invited Anutin to make another visit to Malaysia.

"You make us so comfortable, happy and very relaxed. My colleagues would certainly agree with me," he said, describing relations between both countries as akin to being old friends.

"Whenever there is a problem, we solve it. This doesn’t happen in most countries. It only happens because Thailand is an important country," Anwar said.
