No raise: Retirement age for civil servants remains at 60, says Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has decided that there is no need to raise the retirement age for civil servants at this time.

Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the Communications Minister, said the mandatory retirement age for civil servants remains at 60.

"The government has decided that there is no need to increase the retirement age at this time. Therefore, the retirement age for civil servants will remain at 60," he added.

In May last year, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said proposed raising the retirement age from 60 to 65, noting that individuals at this age remain healthy and capable of contributing productively.

The current mandatory retirement age for civil servants is 60, matching the minimum retirement age in the private sector under the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012.
