Lindung 24 Jam scheme a critical safety net, not a burden, says Ramanan

SEREMBAN: The Non-Work Accident or Lindung 24 Jam scheme under Perkeso is not a financial burden on contributors; it is social protection at its most affordable, with contribution rates deliberately set low to ensure accessibility, says Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

The Human Resources Minister said that the scheme serves as a critical safety net for workers and their families, shielding them from the fallout of unforeseen events such as accidents, disability, or loss of income.

"If we view this scheme as a burden, we would not appreciate its value until something untoward happens. How many cases occur in a single week due to accidents? Someone falls off a motorcycle, the bike is damaged, a leg is broken, an arm is broken. They cannot care for their children, cannot look after their parents and so on.

"Is 0.75% too high if it ensures that families continue to be taken care of in the event of something unforeseen? The contribution is meant to protect yourself and your family.

"So I hope everyone contributes. It is protection. Whatever happens, at least there is some guarantee. On matters of safety, we cannot take things lightly. We must always have protection in place," he told reporters after officiating the Lindung Kerjaya Madani Carnival here on Tuesday (July 7).

He further called on all parties to first familiarise themselves with the scheme's mechanics by reviewing the available details and to assess for themselves the benefits, financial aid and rehabilitation support offered.

Ramanan was previously reported to have stated that more than nine million contributors under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 have been automatically accorded full coverage against non-work-related accidents, effective June 1.

He noted that the initial contribution rate for Lindung 24 Jam is 0.75% of monthly wages, placing the onus on employers to deduct salaries and remit monthly contributions to Perkeso on behalf of their employees.

Separately, he revealed that from 2020 to the present month, 145,625 job seekers registered on the MYFutureJobs portal, while 45,535 job placements were recorded through comprehensive job-matching initiatives with employers across Negeri Sembilan.

"In fact, between January and this month alone, 20,900 job vacancies were advertised via the portal, alongside 4,486 employers who have utilised the platform since 2020," he said.

Regarding today's carnival, he noted that job seekers could tap into 2,000 vacancies from 40 employers across various industry sectors, covering everything from management and professional roles to industrial trainee placements.

"I would also like to highlight MYFutureJobs AI+, a supplementary initiative to the MYFutureJobs platform by Perkeso, designed to elevate its function beyond job-matching into a future talent development platform," he added. – Bernama
