Big day for rural Malaysia

KUANTAN: Malaysia will celebrate World Rural Development Day for the first time at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka near Maran, today.

The celebration, themed “Toward Vibrant, Prosperous and Happy Rural Communities”, is organised in recognition of the groups driving national development and supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, is scheduled to officiate the celebration.

The Rural and Regional Development Ministry announced in a Facebook post that the celebration will focus on three main thrusts, namely community innovation, rural digitisation and rural entrepreneur development.

These three thrusts are translated through various initiatives that expand economic opportunities, strengthen access to digital technology and empower communities to be more progressive and competitive.

“This effort also reflects the government’s continued commitment through the ministry in improving the well-being of rural communities,” according to the post.

The historic celebration will feature various activities, including the Rural Aspiration Madani Award, Felda Plan Excellence Award, Launch of My Rural Insight Journal and announcement of Felcra Bhd Interim Distributable Profit Distribution 1/2026, Bernama reported.

The public is invited to liven up the celebration, with various activities and interesting events at the ministry’s exhibition booth in store for all.
