Posing as MACC officers a criminal offence, graft buster warns

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has advised the public to not fall prey to fake anti-graft officers following a social media post alleging the existence of imposters.

In a statement on Sunday (July 5), it stressed that such actions were illegal and had the potential to undermine the integrity of the MACC.

"Exercise caution when dealing with anyone claiming to be a MACC officer.

"Verify the identity of MACC officers through official channels before providing any information or cooperation.

"Report any suspected impersonation incidents to the MACC immediately. The MACC stresses that impersonating an officer is a criminal offence," it said.

Those caught impersonating officers will face punitive action, with additional measures imposed if fraud or deception are involved, it added.
