Man arrested over hit-and-run accident that killed motorcyclist in KL

PETALING JAYA: A 30-year-old man has been arrested after fleeing the scene of a crash that claimed the life of a 29-year-old motorcyclist on Jalan Tun Razak here.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at about 6am on Sunday (July 5) on Jalan Tun Razak, from Menara TH Selborn towards Bulatan Pahang, near Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

"The victim, a 29-year-old local man, was travelling in the left lane when he was hit from behind by another vehicle early Sunday (July 5).

"The impact caused the victim to fall onto the road and suffer severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Hospital Kuala Lumpur," he said in a statement on Sunday.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the driver of the car allegedly left the scene.

Following investigations, police located the vehicle involved.

"The driver, a 30-year-old local man, presented himself at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station at about 6.30pm," he said.

He said the suspect was arrested under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The suspect was also subjected to a breathalyser test and a preliminary urine screening, with both tests returning negative results," he said.

ACP Mohd Zamzuri said police are completing the investigation papers and will refer the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor on Monday (July 6) for further action.

He urged anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact the Tun HS Lee police station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station.
