Two dead after motorcycles collide with buffalo

JELEBU: Two friends were killed when their motorcycles crashed into a buffalo along KM11 Jalan Lakai-Simpang Durian near here on Saturday (July 4).

Jelebu OCPD Supt Azizan Said said the victims, aged 17 and 19, were believed to have been heading towards Lakai from Simpang Durian when the incident happened around 3am.

"Preliminary probe revealed the victims crashed into the buffalo, which was believed to have been crossing the road.

"Both the victims suffered head injuries and were rushed to Jelebu Hospital but died about an hour later," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Supt Azizan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 289 of the Penal Code.

Section 289 states that anyone who knowingly or negligently fails to take sufficient precautions with an animal in their possession and causes danger to human life can be held criminally liable.

He appealed to eyewitnesses to contact the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Abas Mohamed at 010 864 9229 or the nearest police station to assist in investigations.

Supt Azizan advised motorists to exercise caution when driving at night or in areas at risk of livestock encroachment.
