Gerakan to contest four Negri Sembilan seats

SEREMBAN: Gerakan plans to contest four seats in the upcoming Negri Sembilan state polls, says party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.

He said the party will focus on the Repah and Temiang seats, leaving the remaining two to be decided by the Perikatan Nasional leadership.

“It is pointless to contest many seats but not be able to win any,” he told reporters after chairing the party’s central committee meeting yesterday.

There are 36 seats in the Negri Sembilan assembly.

Lau said Gerakan would only focus on four seats due to limited resources.

In the last state election in August 2023, Gerakan contested six seats under the Perikatan banner but lost in all.

The six were Chennah, Chuah, Lobak, Temiang, Mambau and Lukut.

The last time Gerakan won a state election was in 2004, when it captured the Senawang (now Seremban Jaya) and Bukit Kepayang seats.

It was then with Barisan Nasional.

Lau said Gerakan is targeting Repah and Temiang because it has strong membership, established election machinery, operational centres and winnable candidates for both seats.

“We have also carried out many programmes in these two constituencies and are confident of securing support from voters there.

“We will also be mobilising our machinery from other states to help our candidates in Negri Sembilan,” he added.
