Five new police probes opened in Johor polls

JOHOR BARU: Police have opened five investigation papers between Monday and Thursday in connection with the Johor election.

State police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said this brings the total number of election-related investigation papers opened so far to eight.

Of the five new cases, one is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosives.

“Two cases are being investigated under Section 426 for mischief, while another two are under Section 427 for committing mischief resulting in property damage,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Comm Ab Rahaman said the overall situation remains calm and under control, with the police continuing to monitor developments, including activities on social media platforms.

He said police are working closely with relevant agencies to identify and act against the spread of fake news and unverified information.

“Stern action will be taken against any party found to have violated the law in a manner that could disrupt public order and security,” he said.

He added that police had approved 1,435 permits out of 1,617 applications submitted by political parties for ceramah and campaign activities between Monday and Thursday.

During the same period, police monitored 1,155 election-related political activities across the state.
