Soldier among four charged over perfume investment scam


KUALA LUMPUR: Four people, including a suspended soldier, claimed trial to a charge of cheating a serviceman of RM38,400 in a non-existent perfume investment scheme two months ago.

Puteri Alisa Nabila Muhammad Razali, 23, who is currently suspended from duty, and three employees of a perfume shop namely Mohammad Nazirul Azri Fairus, 29, Mariam Najwa Mahadi, 27, and Khor Leong Weong, 48, entered pleas of not guilty before Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan here on Friday (July 3).

They are jointly charged with cheating Muhammad Adam Haikal Abdul Rahman, 20, by deceiving him into participating in a non-existent perfume investment.

This alleged deception induced the victim to transfer RM38,400 into a bank account belonging to Mariam Najwa, a transfer he would not have made had he not been deceived.

The offence allegedly took place at a restaurant in Sentul on May 2.

The four were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, read together with Section 34 for joint criminal liability.

They face up to between one and 10 years' jail, caning and a possible fine if convicted.

The court allowed Puteri Alisa Nabila bail of RM14,000, while bail for Mohammad Nazirul, Mariam Najwa and Khor was set at RM7,000 each.

The magistrate also ordered all four accused to surrender their passports to the court and fixed Aug 21 for mention. – Bernama
