PETALING JAYA: The reconstruction of dilapidated school buildings is underway nationwide, and 1,250 projects have been approved at a total cost of RM13.8bil.
“As of June 2026, 813 projects had been completed, while 173 were under construction and another 264 remained in the pre-construction stage.
“The construction period for these projects ranges from six to 36 months, depending on the scope of project and site preparation requirements,” the Education Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said it will continue to take proactive measures to address the issue of dilapidated schools nationwide, while the number of dilapidated schools reported in the media is dynamic and changes from time to time.
“The ministry, through the state education departments, continuously monitors the need and feasibility of constructing replacement buildings for dilapidated schools.
“We strive to ensure access to quality education and a conducive ecosystem in all schools nationwide for the benefit of students, teachers and the entire community,” it added.
