BATU PAHAT: Barisan Nasional candidates in the Johor election need to campaign prudently and not entertain personal attacks from opponents who may perceive the coalition as a threat, says former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said Barisan needs to maintain a mature campaign without elements of sedition or personal attacks to achieve victory.
“Do not give hope, do not incite, do not make personal attacks and do not sow hatred when campaigning. Maintain the status of campaigning honourably with plans for the people’s interests,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference after the Lunch Hour With KJ x NS programme here yesterday, which was also attended by Barisan candidate for Parit Yaani, Datuk Mohamad Najib Samuri.
Touching on young voters, Khairy said Barisan had its own approach to reaching out to first-time voters aged 18 and those in their 20s who may not have gone through Barisan’s previous phase of success, reported Bernama.
“These people do not know the history of Barisan, we will fight for their direction by providing several initiatives such as job opportunities and owning houses as well as assistance to further their studies,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Najib said he hoped voters would trust him based on his record of completing several projects in the area.
“After four years as the elected representative in this area, several delayed projects have been successfully completed, including school construction, road upgrading and the latest, flood mitigation projects,” he said.
In his mission to defend the Parit Yaani seat in this election, Mohamad Najib faces a one-on-one clash with Pakatan Harapan candidate Md Ezam Md Taslim.
A total of 172 candidates are contesting in the Johor polls which will be held on July 11, while early voting is on July 7.
