Take stern action against any preachers offering prayers for anyone other than Tuanku Muhriz, Negri NGO coalition urges

SEREMBAN: A coalition of non-governmental organisations wants the Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Department to take stern action against any preacher who offers prayers for the wellbeing of any ruler other than Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir during Friday prayers in the state.

In a statement, the Secretariat of Loyalty and Support for the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan chairman Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin said an official complaint was made with the department on Wednesday (July 1).

"This is also in relation to road tours by certain groups and the organising of Friday prayers in certain areas where the name of a certain individual was mentioned as the state ruler during the doa.

"The secretariat feels this can cause public confusion concerning the legitimate royal state institution," he said.

Megat D.Shahriman said such actions were also a form of treason and clearly challenged the sovereignty of Tuanku Muhriz.

This, he said, was also against the 3R (race, religion, and royalty) provisions introduced to preserve harmony.

"It is our hope that the Islamic Affairs Department will carry out a thorough probe to ensure these incidents do not recur.

"We also urge the police to investigate the matter and take stern action against the wrongdoers," he added.
