Lorry driver, assistant killed after crashing into stalled car in Kulai


KULAI: A lorry driver and his assistant were killed on the spot after losing control of the vehicle, crashing into a stalled car on the right side of the road.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident took place at Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi on Thursday (July 2) at 1.30pm.

He said the lorry was driven by a 74-year-old local man and a 32-year-old assistant; also, a local was travelling towards Kluang from Kota Tinggi.

“The driver suddenly lost control of the lorry when arriving at the accident site before hitting the parked car,’’ ACP Tan said in a statement.

He said both victims suffered from severe head injuries and were pronounced dead on the spot, while the driver of the car was not inside the vehicle when the accident happened.

ACP Tan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He called upon those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp Ahmad Safuan Abu Naim, at mobile number 017-7573507.
