Rohingya man detained in Kedah for riding motorcycle with illegal sidecar

SUNGAI PETANI: A Rohingya man holding a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card was detained by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for riding a modified motorcycle fitted with an unapproved cargo sidecar and for not having a valid driving licence.

In an operation at Taman MBI Desaku, Padang Meha near Kuala Ketil on June 20, enforcement officers stopped a motorcycle modified into a three-wheeler without approval.

The rider failed to produce a valid Competent Driving Licence and was not wearing a safety helmet.

JPJ officers detected several other technical offences involving the motorcycle.

The motorcycle was seized and taken to the JPJ impound depot in Kuala Ketil for further action.

JPJ said in a statement that it would continue enforcement against those driving without licences and modifying vehicles without approval, to ensure the safety of road users.
