PETALING JAYA: Bersatu is supportive of Pejuang’s admission into Perikatan Nasional but opposes the inclusion of Parti Cinta Malaysia, which is being rebranded as Parti Wawasan Negara, says Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
“The objection to Parti Cinta Malaysia was based on concerns that its entry could trigger internal conflict within Perikatan, as well as issues over the legality of the application process,” he said.
Parti Cinta Malaysia has been rebranded as Parti Wawasan Negara, led by former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
In a statement yesterday, Faisal Ismail said the application to join Perikatan was submitted under the name of Parti Cinta Malaysia.
However, the leadership details provided were linked to Parti Wawasan Negara, he said.
Faisal Ismail explained that the “internal conflict” remained – in reference to PAS versus Bersatu – despite changes in Parti Cinta Malaysia’s name and leadership, which have yet to be approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
On Monday, Perikatan announced that both Parti Cinta Malaysia and Pejuang had been admitted into the coalition.
Parti Wawasan Negara secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah explained that the party had applied to join Perikatan under Parti Cinta Malaysia as it was awaiting ROS’ confirmation of its new name and leadership.
He said that an extraordinary general meeting held on June 20 had decided on the new name – Parti Wawasan Negara – and elected a new leadership.
“After the EGM, we wrote to Perikatan applying to be a component party.
“We wrote as Parti Cinta Malaysia because we are awaiting confirmation from ROS and informed them that we are now named Parti Wawasan Negara,” he was quoted as saying.
Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu subsequently said on Tuesday that Parti Cinta Malaysia’s application to join Perikatan was procedurally irregular.
Yesterday, Bersatu youth chief Hilman Idham dispelled claims that it opposes Pejuang’s admission into Perikatan.
“In fact, the decision to accept Pejuang as a component party was made unanimously,” he said.
Hilman said his party maintains that all decisions involving the direction and composition of Perikatan must be made transparently, systematically and in accordance with the law.
“No party, regardless of position, should bypass due process or expect exemption from rules that are binding on all.
“Bersatu will continue to uphold the principles of good governance, respect the rule of law and ensure that every decision made by Perikatan serves the interests of the coalition and the people, rather than being driven by short-term political considerations,” he added.
