Tanjong Karang school damaged in midnight blaze

PETALING JAYA: A building at SK Parit Serong in Tanjong Karang caught fire shortly after midnight on Monday (June 22).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said a distress call was received at 12.50am.

He said a team of 13 firefighters, along with engines from the Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor and Sungai Besar fire stations, was dispatched to the scene.

"Initial reports indicated that the fire involved a Class A school building, with about 40% of the teachers' room and office affected.

"However, firefighters later confirmed that the blaze actually involved the administration room and resource unit," he said in a statement.

Ashrul Riezal said firefighting and overhaul works were subsequently carried out, with the fire brought under control and 80% extinguished.

At the same time, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) was notified to disconnect the electricity supply.

The operation concluded at 3.56am.
