KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spent time meeting Malaysians in Ashgabat during his official visit to Turkmenistan.
The Prime Minister said the opportunity was used to share the government’s commitment to continue strengthening and fostering ties with Malaysians abroad.
He urged the diaspora community to remain connected to their homeland and stay abreast of the nation’s development.
“Alhamdulillah, we were able to meet the Malaysian diaspora in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Although far from our beloved homeland, their spirit and warmth made it feel as though we were gathered in Kuala Lumpur.
“These are unofficial ambassadors of the nation who, through their efforts, help build Malaysia’s good reputation and image, expand networks and elevate the country’s standing,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday, Bernama reported.
Anwar said he also explained that the purpose of the visit to Ashgabat went beyond trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The Prime Minister said the visit was also aimed at expanding friendship between the two countries, strengthening mutual understanding and opening new avenues of cooperation that could benefit both nations.
Anwar is currently on a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan, his first to the Central Asian country, at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov following the latter’s official visit to Malaysia in December 2024.
He was previously in Kazan, Russia, on a two-day working visit to attend the Asean-Russia Commemorative Summit.
