KUALA LUMPUR: Universities must continuously reflect on how higher education is delivered and experienced to ensure technological innovation translates into better learning opportunities, says Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
He said digital technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), are transforming the education landscape.
“They provide new possibilities for access, personalisation and flexibility.
“However, as we embrace these developments, we must continue to uphold the values that make education meaningful — wisdom, responsibility and human connection,” he said in a speech read out by Higher Education director-general Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman during the second Open University Malaysia (OUM) annual public lecture series on Wednesday (Aug 5).
He added that the future of education will not be shaped by one institution or country alone as it requires cooperation, dialogue and the sharing of experiences across borders.
“The journey of higher education will continue to evolve.
“The Higher Education Ministry remains committed to building a system that supports lifelong learning, diverse learning pathways and prepares Malaysians for the future,” he said.
Held under the theme "Beyond Standard Scripts: Imagining New Futures in Digital Education," the public lecture featured presentations by five newly appointed OUM Global Fellows (2026-2027) from leading institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Hong Kong, and Japan.
The ceremony also saw OUM unveil a new modernised corporate logo, marking the institution’s most significant brand evolution since its founding in 2000.
