PETALING JAYA: The High Court has awarded corporate figure Tan Sri Salim Fateh Din a total of RM275,000 after allowing two suits he filed against former senator Datuk Seri Daljit Singh.
In a judgment delivered on July 30, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered Daljit to pay RM100,000 in damages after finding him liable for defamation.
The court also granted an injunction restraining Daljit from making similar defamatory remarks against Salim in future.
In the second suit, which was heard together with the defamation case, the court ordered Daljit to repay a RM100,000 loan to Salim.
Daljit was also ordered to pay RM75,000 in costs, bringing the total amount awarded to RM275,000.
Salim, the executive vice-chairman of Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB), had sued Daljit over remarks allegedly made to two individuals that he said were defamatory and had damaged his reputation.
Daljit's counterclaim was dismissed.
Both cases were heard before High Court Judge Roz Mawar Rozain.
Salim was represented by Dhinesh Bhaskaran while Daljit was represented by Harjinder Singh.
