Woman charged with murder of Indonesian national


SEPANG: A woman was charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Friday (June 19) for the murder of an Indonesian national in an incident that allegedly took place early this month.

Chin Siau Lan, 44, was charged with causing the death of the woman, identified as Puteri, at a residential unit in Block B, The Olive, Jalan Sunsuria 1, Bandar Sunsuria, at 2.31pm on June 3.

The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and whipping of not fewer than 12 strokes upon conviction.

No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor V. Luvithaa appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer V. Ayasamy represented Chin.

Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani subsequently fixed July 21 for mention and submission of relevant documents. - Bernama
