83 high-impact projects planned to transform state’s economy
JOHOR BARU: Up to 83 high-impact investment projects worth RM167.4bil have been identified to spearhead the Johor’s economic ambitions under the Johor Economic Transformation Plan (JETP).
State investment, trade, consumer affairs and human resources committee chairman Lee Ting Han said the projects span eight priority sectors selected based on Johor’s strengths and competitive advantages.
“These projects are expected to play an important role in helping Johor achieve its economic transformation targets by 2030,” he said.
The sectors are electrical and electronics, energy, chemicals and petrochemicals, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, aerospace, logistics, tourism and agriculture.
Lee said this during a presentation at the launch of the JETP by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi here yesterday.
Also present were Pemandu Associates president and chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jala and Johor economic and investment adviser Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.
Lee said the JETP was formulated following 200 engagement sessions, workshops and discussions involving various stakeholders.
“The plan will also empower the workforce with skills and knowledge that are aligned with industry needs, while creating quality job opportunities for the people in support of inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” he said.
Lee said the state has set three key targets under the plan, including achieving a gross domestic product (GDP) of RM260bil and creating more than 200,000 new jobs by 2030.
“By strengthening and accelerating high-value sectors, Johor’s GDP per capita is projected to exceed RM69,000 by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.5%,” he said.
Lee added that the JETP also aims to ensure economic development is spread more evenly across the state, rather than being concentrated in Johor Baru, Kulai and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
“Each district has been mapped according to its economic strengths and development potential as part of the initiative.
“The state government has also outlined 32 intervention initiatives, including 13 priority measures, to ensure the successful implementation of JETP and accelerate the delivery of the identified projects,” he said.
