39 hotspots under scrutiny amid Johor polls

JOHOR BARU: Johor police have identified 39 hotspots in the upcoming Johor state election, says state police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad (pic).

He said that police will give extra attention to these areas without disclosing the exact locations.

“We are ready to face the election and will ensure it will go peacefully and smoothly,” he told a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters yesterday.

Comm Ab Rahaman said a total of 11,926 Johor police personnel will be deployed throughout the state election, spanning from nomination day on June 27 to polling day on July 11.

He explained that the state police have structured operations into five distinct phases.

The first phase, covering the pre-election period, focuses on intelligence gathering, assessing potential security threats and monitoring political developments.

Comm Ab Rahaman said that phase two will be the nomination day on June 27 where work is focused on ensuring peace and order at the nomination centres.

“Campaigning will start on June 27 until 11.59pm on July 10.

“We will deploy 4,832 officers to monitor the campaigning activities under phase three,” he said.

He warned that the police would not compromise with any party found playing up sensitive issues related to the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty).

“Phase four is for early voting on July 7, and voting day on July 11, where 11,814 officers will be on duty,” he added.

Comm Ab Rahaman said that phase five will be post-election until the counting of votes is completed and with the official announcement of the winners.

“We have submitted applications of 5,763 officers from Bukit Aman to deploy for the state election if the needs arise,” he said.
