PETALING JAYA: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has backed a proposal to introduce a law requiring a minimum of 30% female representation among candidates for Parliament and state legislative assemblies.
Its secretary-general Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said the party's national leadership committee had agreed to support efforts during a meeting on Thursday (June 18).
"Amanah supports efforts to formulate a law for a minimum 30% representation of women in Parliament and the state legislative assemblies," he said in a statement.
Muhammad Faiz also said the party was fully prepared to face the upcoming Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections.
He said Amanah had instructed its election machinery at all levels to mobilise in support of Amanah and Pakatan Harapan candidates.
"Amanah is ready to face the 16th Johor and Negri Sembilan state elections and has instructed its election machinery at all levels to help ensure that every Amanah and Pakatan Harapan candidate achieves victory. Our target is to form the state governments in Johor and Negri Sembilan," he said.
Muhammad Faiz said the decision was made during a meeting of the party's national leadership committee on Thursday.
On Friday (June 12), the Election Commission set July 11 as polling day for the Johor state election and Aug 1 for the Negri Sembilan state election.
The 56-seat Johor state assembly was dissolved on June 1 while the 36-seat Negri Sembilan state assembly was dissolved on June five.
