PETALING JAYA: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has apologised after technical problems disrupted RTMKlik's live streaming of the first half of the FIFA World Cup 2026 match between France and Senegal early Wednesday (June 16).
Broadcasting director-general Ashwad Ismail said the disruption, which occurred during the live broadcast at about 3am, was caused by an unforeseen technical issue that resulted in some users experiencing difficulties accessing the stream smoothly.
He said RTM's technical team, together with its technology provider, took immediate action to restore the service.
"RTM fully understands the disappointment of football fans who were looking forward to the match.
We greatly appreciate the patience, support and feedback given throughout the disruption," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 17)
Ashwad said RTM, as the official Malaysian broadcaster of the tournament, remained committed to providing the best viewing experience for audiences nationwide.
He said RTM would continue strengthening its digital broadcasting infrastructure and systems to minimise the risk of similar disruptions in the future.
RTM is carrying all 104 matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026, comprising 94 live broadcasts and 10 delayed telecasts.
"RTM once again apologises for the inconvenience caused and will continue striving to ensure that all 104 matches can be enjoyed by Malaysians more smoothly and with better quality," he said.
