KULAI: Two men have been arrested for allegedly threatening a motorist with a parang following a near-collision in Senai.
Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the suspects, aged 26 and 30, were arrested at about 7.10pm on Sunday (Aug 2) at Forest City in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri.
He said four suspects were involved in the incident, which occurred at the Senai flyover heading towards Senai International Airport at about 5.50am the same day.
"The incident was believed to have started when the motorist repeatedly flashed his headlights at the suspects' car when it suddenly entered the right lane slowly and nearly hit his car," ACP Tan said in a statement on Monday (Aug 3)
He said suspects later overtook the motorist's vehicle before abruptly stopping in front of it at the flyover.
"One of the suspects then got out of the car with a parang and shouted at the motorist, demanding that he get out of his vehicle.
"The suspect then swung the parang at the motorist's car bonnet, scraping off some of the paint," he said.
Following a report by the motorist, police arrested the two suspects later that evening and seized items including a 30cm parang and its sheath. Both suspects tested negative for drugs.
He added that police are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident and track down the other individuals involved.
The case is being investigated under Sections 506, 427 and 279 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, committing mischief and reckless driving respectively.
