PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Dr Jafri Abdul Jalil has been appointed the new Penang state secretary, effective Monday (Aug 3).
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said Jafri, 58, who was previously the deputy director-general (Analysis) of the Research Division in the Prime Minister's Department, brings 32 years of experience in research, policy, strategic planning and disaster management operations.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Jafri, who holds a Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom.
"He has extensive experience in research, policy and strategic planning, as well as disaster management operations spanning 32 years," he said in a statement on Monday.
Shamsul Azri said Jafri had also served with the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
He expressed confidence that Jafri's expertise, experience and leadership would enable him to steer the Penang state administration effectively, drive the state's development agenda and strengthen strategic cooperation between the federal and state governments for the continued benefit of the people.
Jafri succeeds Datuk Seri Zulkifli Long, 60, who completed his tenure on Sunday (Aug 2) after being appointed to the post in September 2024. – Bernama
