State PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed said the party already has an incumbent in Maharani.
“Maybe we will contest fewer seats this time around,” he said.
Mahfodz confirmed that he would not be contesting.
However, a Perikatan Nasional source said that PAS, a component party of the coalition, is expected to announce tomorrow whether it will be contesting in the Johor and Negri Sembilan elections.
“Talk is rife that PAS may sit out the election to give way to Barisan Nasional, particularly Umno.
“This is to avoid a split of the Malay votes,” said the source.
The same source said the announcement is expected to be made by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan has almost finalised negotiations for all 56 seats, except for three, namely Bukit Permai, Larkin and Puteri Wangsa, said state chairman Aminolhuda Hassan.
He said seat negotiations are ongoing and they hope to finalise them before the announcement of candidates on June 22.
A Pakatan official said all three parties – PKR, DAP and Amanah – are expected to contest more seats, adding that in the previous election, these parties gave up seven of their traditional seats to Muda.
“If going by convention, Bukit Permai should go back to DAP, Larkin to PKR and Puteri Wangsa to be contested by Amanah,” the official said.
The other seats Muda contested in the 2022 polls were Tenang, Bukit Kepong, Parit Raja and Machap.
The official said that under the new pact, PKR could contest up to 20 seats, Amanah 19 seats and DAP 17 seats.
The official said DAP is looking to contest three extra seats, namely Bukit Permai, Tiram and Parit Raja.
“Tiram is a PKR seat and maybe there could be a last-minute swap,” the official said.
Aminolhuda, who is Johor Amanah chief, said the party would be fielding 14 new faces.
