PETALING JAYA: Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are set to expand internationally as government initiatives drive market access through new partnerships in Japan, says Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim (pic).
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Japan also focused on creating new opportunities for these enterprises to grow abroad.
“This is in line with the ministry’s priorities and efforts to strengthen Malaysian MSMEs,” he said in a statement yesterday.
As the world continues to face the impact of the global supply crisis, he said the ministry’s priority is to ensure MSMEs can capture larger market shares both domestically and internationally.
He added that this strategic approach aligns with the Accelerating Productivity, Bureaucracy Reduction, Capital Accessibility and Developing Market Access (ABCD) framework.
“Particularly component D, which emphasises expanding market access, building international business networks and opening export opportunities for Malaysian companies,” he said.
Sim noted that to maintain this momentum, Bank Rakyat, with the ministry’s support, organised the Bank Rakyat BizMatch: Make Malaysian Businesses Great programme in Tokyo on June 10 during Anwar’s visit.
He said the programme brought together seven Malaysian companies and 27 Japanese companies to explore cooperation and market expansion in sectors including food, commodity-based manufacturing and green technology.
