PETALING JAYA: Bersatu remains committed to Perikatan Nasional, even after PAS, a member of the coalition ended its ties with the party, says its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic).
He said as a founding member of Perikatan, Bersatu will stay in the coalition, adding that the decision to sever political cooperation is entirely PAS’s wishes.
“As a founding member, Bersatu will remain in the coalition and strengthen its core struggles,” Muhyiddin said.
Under Perikatan, Bersatu will continue to implement its people-centric agenda and support the aspirations of Malaysians who seek change and leadership that truly represents the hopes of all citizens, he said.
Muhyiddin said members, leaders and supporters must focus on efforts to strengthen Perikatan.
“Leaders and members at every level must continue to place the interests of the people as the top priority and be even more motivated in facing this latest challenge.
“I am confident those who support the ideals of Perikatan will remain steadfast alongside us,” he said.
Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has questioned the performance of Perikatan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar amid tensions between the party and PAS.
He said several disputes have emerged between the two parties, but appropriate solutions have yet to follow.
“As PAS vice-president, Ahmad Samsuri is constrained in making final decisions because he must first refer to the PAS president and the party’s Syura Council.
“This has resulted in many key issues within Perikatan not being effectively resolved through coalition channels,” said Tun Faisal.
Bersatu youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid rubbished allegations that his party had obstructed the Muslim unity agenda, saying that it is committed towards efforts to unite Malay political parties.
Gerakan has also reaffirmed its commitment to Perikatan as a coalition member, amid the crisis involving its partners in the pact, said its president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau.
“We respect the role and contributions of both PAS and Bersatu within Perikatan and will wait for further clarification on the matter,” he said.
