Bersatu will remain in Perikatan despite PAS severing ties, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu will remain in Perikatan Nasional after PAS severed its political cooperation with the party, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Bersatu president expressed his disappointment that the cooperation built with PAS, founded based on mutual understanding, has been terminated by PAS.

"The decision to end political cooperation and sever ties with Bersatu was made at PAS's own discretion.

"As a founding party of Perikatan, Bersatu will remain within the coalition and strengthen its core struggle," Muhyiddin said in a statement on Tuesday (June 9).

Bersatu, he said, will continue to advance the people-centric agenda by Perikatan since its establishment, while supporting the aspirations of Malaysians who seek change and leadership that truly represents the hopes of all citizens.

Members, leaders and supporters, added Muhyiddin, must focus on efforts to strengthen Perikatan.

"Leaders and members at every level must continue to place the interests of the people as the top priority and be even more motivated in facing this latest challenge.

"I am confident that the people who support the ideals of Perikatan will remain steadfast alongside us," he said.

Late Monday (June 8) night, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that the party had decided to terminate its political cooperation with Bersatu.

His announcement followed a special meeting of the PAS central working committee at party headquarters.
