Sg Petani fatal crash: Investigation ongoing, Transport Ministry giving space to authorities

GEORGE TOWN: The authorities have been given space to conduct the investigation into the tragic accident that claimed six lives in Sungai Petani, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.

He said they were still waiting for the full report of the case before sharing any comment with the media.

Declining to make any speculations when prodded on the cause of the accident, Hasbi said he did not want to draw a premature conclusion.

"We are still waiting for the investigation.

"I cannot say more than that," he told reporters after launching the International Rail Transit Forum 2026 held at the AC Hotel by Marriott in Penang on Monday (June 8).

He was responding to questions by the press on the accident on Sunday afternoon (June 7) which claimed the lives of six family members and if there was a possibility there were issues with the car involved in the accident.

It was reported that six family members, including a six-month-old baby, were killed in a collision between a 10-ton lorry and an SUV along Kampung Baru Pinang Tunggal near here on Sunday (June 7) afternoon.

The victims were pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials, while a three-year-old girl was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
