Barisan to finalise candidates for Johor state elections

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will hold a meeting with Barisan Nasional component parties today to finalise candidates for the Johor state polls.

“Tomorrow, I will have a meeting with the component parties to negotiate (on seats), particularly with MCA and MIC, to finalise their positions,” the Barisan Nasional chairman said.

He said the process has almost been completed for Umno.

“We hope to finalise everything fully next week, and we will make an announcement a week before nomination day,” said the Deputy Prime Minister to reporters after the National TVET Day celebration here yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid reiterated that Barisan will contest all 56 state seats in Johor.

The Johor state assembly was dissolved on Monday, paving the way for a state election.

The Election Commission will hold a special meeting related to the polls on June 12.
