AGC reviewing probe papers linked to former MACC head

PETALING JAYA: The investigation paper involving former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has been referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further instructions, says Comm Datuk M. Kumar.

The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director said investigation papers on the alleged threat against businessman Albert Tei and for a Bloomberg article regarding share ownership with Velocity Capital Partner Berhad were referred to the AGC on Thursday.

“It was handed over on June 4 for further instructions and advice,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Meanwhile, AG Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed that the investigation paper had been referred and was still being studied.

“No decision has been made at this moment.

“Time is needed to study it and determine any course of action regarding the investigation. Let us study the matter thoroughly,” he said.

On Wednesday, the former MACC head gave his statement to the police during a two-hour session at Bukit Aman.

Police had previously recorded two statements on the case, namely from Tei himself as well as the lawyer who allegedly conveyed the threats to him.

Tei had lodged a police report on May 13, alleging that threats from the former MACC chief had been forwarded to him by the lawyer.

Azam has denied the allegations and urged the police to expedite the investigation into his claims.
