Johor polls: Cooperation between federal, state govts key to Johor's development, says Mat Sabu

BATU PAHAT: Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has warned against another round of political instability, urging Johor voters to back parties aligned with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

The Amanah president, who is also Pakatan Harapan deputy chairman, said this was to prevent a repeat of the frequent changes in government that followed the 2018 general election.

“Our country experienced a period of political uncertainty after the 2018 general election, which saw several changes in government and prime ministers within a short span of time.

“The country needs a stable administration to move forward. Investors want certainty and the people want a government that can focus on development rather than political manoeuvring,” he added.

Mohamad, who is also the Agriculture and Food Security Minister, said this during the launch of Pakatan’s election machinery for Johor state election held here on Saturday night (June 6).

He added that parties in the unity government had put aside past political differences to work together, allowing Anwar’s administration to govern effectively for more than three years.

He credited the government’s stability for improvements in economic indicators, including a stronger ringgit and continued foreign investments.

Mohamad said Johor’s future development would be best served by close cooperation between the state and Federal Governments, particularly in areas such as agriculture, food security and investment promotion.

Expressing confidence in Harapan’s prospects in the coming state election, he said Johor voters understood the importance of political stability and would make their choice based on what was best for the state’s continued growth and prosperity.
