Warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain in nine states, says MetMalaysia

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across seven states and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, effective until noon on Tuesday (June 2).

The severe weather warning covers the entire states of Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perak and Selangor.

In Pahang, the affected areas include Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Raub and Bentong.

Residents in several districts in Negeri Sembilan, namely in Jelebu, Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah and Rembau, should also brace for storms.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
