Motorcyclist killed after bike skids, plunges into 10m-deep ravine near Gerik


IPOH: A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle skidded and plunged into a 10m-deep ravine along the East-West Highway in Gerik on Tuesday (June 2).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victim, was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

He said the department received an emergency call at 10.09am and dispatched a team from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station to the location, about 35km away.

“The accident involved a motorcycle that skidded before falling into the ravine with the rider.

“Firefighters carried out a rescue operation to bring the victim up to the roadside using a stretcher through a stepped highway drain route.

“The victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

He added that a total of 12 firefighters were involved in the operation, assisted by two police personnel, three Health Ministry staff and four Civil Defence Force (APM) members.

The operation was brought under control at 11.15am.
