Missing hiker spotted on wildlife camera

PETALING JAYA: Missing hiker Jaslinda Saludin has been spotted on a wildlife surveillance camera, providing rescuers with a crucial lead as search efforts continue.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said images retrieved from one of two cameras installed by the Wildlife and National Parks Department and the Forestry Department showed the 49-year-old at about 11.20am on May 24.

“The images support our belief that the victim was heading towards Kem Sukaneka, which is consistent with the shoe prints and water bottles discovered earlier,” she said.

Sayani said there are two junctions leading to Kem Sukaneka and a water point beyond the camera’s location.

“The path to the water point had been blocked with wooden barriers to indicate it was not part of the trail,” she said, adding that there were no images showing Jaslinda turning back or retracing her steps past the camera.

Jaslinda was taking part in a trek along the Trans Spencer Chapman trail on May 23 and was last seen by a forestry guide at about 7.30am on May 24.
