PETALING JAYA: With the school holidays in full swing, parents are flocking to Sunway Lagoon to ride its water slides and relive childhood memories with their children.
Dentist Tyler Tay, 36, said a trip to the water park is more than just a holiday outing with his family.
He first visited the park about 20 years ago and now returns with his three children and his wife to experience the same thrills.
“It is our first time coming as a family with children. And since they are on their school holidays, it is a suitable time given the many fun activities for the children as well,” said Tay, who is from Bukit Jalil.
“We took the annual pass to make this visit more cost‑efficient.
“I have also roped in my sister and her son as well for the first time to enjoy together. My children and nephew are very excited to go down water slides,” he said, adding that they will spend about three to four hours here.
Similarly, teacher Nur Amalina Ismail, 32, came all the way from Kudat, Sabah, to visit Sunway Lagoon with her family for the first time.
“Now that it’s the school holidays and I’m free too, my husband and I wanted to do something fun here in Kuala Lumpur.
“We arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, and Genting Highlands is next on our itinerary,” said Nur Amalina, adding that she spent about RM600 on the visit but felt it was worthwhile as her two toddlers were excited throughout the outing.
“We will probably come again during the next holiday season,” she said.
Meanwhile, other parents have signed up for the seasonal passes, giving their children unlimited year‑round access to Sunway Lagoon’s rides and attractions.
Kajang housewife Michelle Choo, 46, makes Sunway Lagoon a holiday ritual, visiting up to three times a year whenever school holidays begin for her son.
“Our family of three will renew our annual pass here so that we can come in anytime. Our first visit was last year.
“This time, I have roped in my friends and their children, so it’s a bigger group and the children can enjoy themselves better,” she said, adding that there are about 10 of them in the group.
She said they would most likely visit again during the next school holidays later in the year.
“We didn’t plan anything else other than this, as my son has his own school activities and studies during the holidays.
“But whenever school holidays start, we come here first, only then do we plan other interstate travels,” Choo added.
Another regular visitor, Raajeswary Sinniah, 39, from Subang Jaya, said the theme park has been part of her life since childhood.
“I used to come here since I was eight years old. And now I live opposite the park, which makes it convenient to bring my three children, too.
“Every year I bring my children here, it doesn’t matter for school holidays or a usual weekend,” she said, adding that she may bring them again on Monday.
