Compact car carrying 10 people crashes into house in Tumpat


KOTA BARU: A 21-year-old local man and nine Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained after the car they were in skidded off a road before crashing into a vehicle and a house in Kampung Tok Malik, Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat.

General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the incident, which occurred at about 7am on Saturday (May 30), took place when a team from the GOF 7th Battalion Task Force was conducting an Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan patrol.

He said the team attempted to stop a car for inspection but the driver sped off.

"The suspect lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and crashed into a resident's car and part of a house. Checks found that the vehicle was driven by a local man believed to be acting as a transporter and was carrying nine Bangladeshi immigrants," he said when contacted on Saturday.

He said all 10 suspects were and the nine immigrants were taken for further action and documentation procedures at the Pengkalan Kubor GOF headquarters.

"The suspects, aged from 20 to 55, failed to produce valid travel documents. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver admitted receiving RM100 for each person picked up at the Malaysia-Thailand border to be transported to Kota Baru," he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. – Bernama
