Build on unity, compassion during Aidiladha, says PKR deputy sec-gen

MELAKA: The spirit of sacrifice embodied during Hari Raya Aidiladha must move beyond ritual observance and inspire Malaysians to strengthen unity, protect the vulnerable and build a more compassionate society, says Aidi Amin Yazid.

The PKR deputy secretary-general said the celebration carries a universal message that connects local values with global realities by weaving together faith, policy and solidarity.

"The core message of Aidiladha invites us to look into all aspects of life.

“This also means ensuring dignity for all, regardless of background, through inclusive policies, access to essential services and opportunities for every citizen to thrive,” he said in an interview on Wednesday (May 27).

Aidi Amin said a society that prioritises people over privilege would be better positioned to strengthen social harmony and resilience during times of crisis.

"The act of sacrifice is more than ritual as it's a reminder to channel resources and energy towards higher communal goals,” he said.

He said the same spirit should inspire collective investment in education, healthcare and social safety nets to uplift the most vulnerable.

"When we sacrifice during this celebration, we must also aim to protect the vulnerable, empower aspiration and avoid rewarding complacency,” he said.

Aidi Amin said charity should not be confined to festive moments, but reflected in everyday acts of sharing, volunteering and policy decisions that reduce hunger and poverty.

He said a compassionate economy must also recognise that wealth concentration could weaken social cohesion and long-term growth.

“Progressive measures, transparent welfare programmes and effective social assistance can help bridge gaps without stifling enterprise,” he added.
