Muslims in Singapore and Indonesia to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha on May 27

SINGAPORE/JAKARTA (Bernama): Muslims in Indonesia and Singapore will celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha on May 27 (Wednesday).

Indonesia Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar said the decision was made following an isbat session held in Jakarta on Sunday, based on moon-sighting observations conducted at 88 locations across the country.

He stated that the crescent moon had met the criteria established by the Meeting of Religious Ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS).

"Based on the results of calculations and moon sighting reports, it was agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijrah falls on Monday, May 18, 2026.

"Therefore, Hari Raya Aidiladha falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” he said in a press conference  streamed live on Youtube, on Sunday.

The isbat session is an official government forum to determine the beginning of Islamic lunar months, involving representatives from Islamic organisations, astronomy experts and relevant government agencies.

In SINGAPORE, Mufti Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir said that according to astronomical calculations, the crescent moon of Zulhijah remained above Singapore’s horizon after sunset on Sunday evening.

"As such, today will be the final day of the month of Zulkaedah. Therefore, the month of Zulhijah 1447H will begin on Monday, May 18, 2026.

"This means Hari Raya Aidiladha will fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” he said in a statement.

According to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis), all 900 haj pilgrims from the republic safely departed for Saudi Arabia on three flights between May 9 and 14. -- Bernama
