KAJANG: Former MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki will be called in to give his statement as part of a probe into allegations of threats against businessman Albert Tei.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar said that two statements have been recorded, involving Tei and the lawyer who allegedly conveyed the threats to him.
During a press conference at the Kajang police headquarters, Comm Kumar stressed that investigations are still ongoing.
Tei had previously claimed that Azam threatened him when he attempted to expose alleged corruption involving several high-profile politicians in Sabah.
On investigations into an alleged bid to topple the government, Comm Kumar said police recorded statements from 17 individuals.
“We have checked with the Immigration Department and found that three individuals are still overseas.
“The investigation paper has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further action and advice,” he added.
It was reported in February that the widow of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin had denied claims of a plot linked to her family to topple the government as “false, preposterous and even laughable”.
On investigations into comments made by former Damansara MP Tony Pua, Comm Kumar said a total of 120 police reports had been lodged, with statements recorded from 95 individuals.
He added that a constitutional expert would be called in to give a statement.
On May 21, Pua confirmed that police had recorded his statement following his recent comments on the royal decree and the Rukun Negara.
